My daughter and her three children have just come back from a cottage in Northumbria - I can get the details if it's of interest - 15 miles south of Berwick on a cattle farm. She said it was lovely - a group of 6 farm cottages on a  family owned farm.

Some good friends of mine run Carraw B&B, which is slap bang on the top of Hadrian's Wall in the wilds of Northumberland. Both the beds and breakfasts come highly recommended!

Listed in Cottages4you.co.uk and Northumbrian cottages - this is the one Sarah and the children (16, 13, and 8) stayed in.

http://ww2.cottages4you.co.uk/cottages/curlew-cottage-cc313019

Pros- very clean and tidy, very peaceful, handy for lots of places to visit, Berwick, reasonably big rooms. Swimming pool in Berwick was really good - lots of flumes/water games etc

Cons - need to drive - a bit far to walk to Belford, footpath only partway; phone signal erratic; not really a farm -more a group of farm cottages, mostly renovated, but two still to do.
