Diatom for worming pigs?
« on: July 22, 2015, 10:10:40 pm »
I have just got my first set of weaners and am wondering how I can keep worms at bay until they go to the abattoir. I have heard that you can use diatom (2% in their daily feed), has any one used this and is it effective?
Thanks

I'm not sure that this is necessary and I've never wormed any of the weaners we've had but perhaps I've just been lucky.

If I remember correctly the breeder I got my Tamworths from said she worms every 6 months but that was only mentioned because we bought "keepers" this time as we plan to start breeding from them!

We use Flubenol.

If they were wormed as weaners the breeder should have covered them for 6 months, so you shouldn't need to worm them again before they go.
