Feet

Does anyone know if sheep have a gland just above the hooves where leg joins foot?  I had a lame sheep a few weeks ago and cleaned between toes and noticed what looked like a puncture wound with some clear greasy discharge when squeezed.  I caught same ewe today to vaccinate and when checking her feet noticed same hole on both front feet.

Just wondering if normal as seems a big coincidence that she could have punctured both feet in same place.  Sprayed with green spray just in case.

Yes its absolutely normal. But I wouldnt squeeze it. If she was lame it was probably due to scald or footrot? I also seem to see a lot of shelly hoof at the moment, not sure if its due to bad weather/change of hay or just the time of year.

Mine are due their booster tomorrow, lets hope the weather holds.

What is shelly foot?  I think mine seem to be suffering mostly with bits of twig or poo wedged between toes. Gave some a tidy up today as they let me pick up like horses hooves so managed to avoid turning them over. Still waiting for my second ewe to lamb she is determined to keep her legs crossed until I am in bed.

You should be lucky with weather, freezing in Wiltshire just now.
