Hello from Aberdeenshire
« on: June 14, 2015, 10:36:38 am »
Hello frown the sunny and always warm county of Aberdeenshire !
My wife an I have a 25acre croft on the east coast, mainly grass a bit of woodland and peat mos swhich is a SSSI . We are blessed with such a diversity of wild life here that getting work done can be difficult just watching and listening.
On the domestic front we keep goats and up to now pigs  ( but they have to go  >:( )  and a horse , dogs , chickens , geese and we are kindly kept by the 2 rescue cats ,so they like to think......
I make our own haylage nowadays after 3 decades of waiting on unreliable weather, cut our own firewood, make cheese ,butter , sausages ( dunno what we will do when they run out )

I'm not a great one for forums, the internet is useful but to me can be a waste of daylight , so after my neighbour suggested this site  I thought I'd better take a look and was amazed at he amount of help and advice there is available, just wish this  had been about years ago !
Better go as the sun is shining ( really ) the birds are singing and the goats want to go out , now wheres me goat herders hat  :farmer:

Hi from Moray - sunny today.

We keep Shetland cattle on our holding  - great animals, used by many for conservation grazing - we keep them for their beef.

Always nice to see fellow NEaster on the forum.

Know what you mean about wildlife - we've just spent 20 minutes watching a roe doe nibbling the leaves from one of the fruit trees in our garden.

Hi from Huntly - we have British Toggs and an AN who is such a character she has been rechristened "the princess"  ;D  I'd love to pick your brain on cheese making
Our holding has Anglo Nubian and British Toggenburg goats, Gotland sheep, Franconian Geese, Blue Swedish ducks, a whole load of mongrel hens and two semi-feral children.

We too  have Saanens and a couple of Anglo Nubians and a BA, been out side in the paddock in the sun lying down looking up at the skylark singing his heart out and the swallows making low passes, as for the goats , they just larked about as usual udders flapping in the breeze !! Loads of milk to night now making ice cream to use it
