stamping itchy feet
« on: May 22, 2015, 08:52:57 am »
Hi my 18 month old female boer has suddenly developed very sore, crusty feet and is obviously very itchy.  I have sprayed her feet (which was no mean feat!!) with the antiseptic spray but I suspect mites.  Should I treat with Crovect, Spot on or Deosect?  Should I continue spraying?

Thanks

I would treat for chorioptic mange - I have used eprinex for this or paramectin pourons. Just have a look at the box of whatever you are proposing to use to see if it covers it.  I would repeat in every 2 weeks until symptoms disappear.  I use double the sheep dose for ivermectin based preparations.  She may get a secondary infection so antibiotics and a steroid injection  (or similar) to stop the itching may be required too. They can get quite sore with this.  Probably worth a phone call to the vet to discuss the treatment for her.
