How many pgymy goats make a happy group?
« on: May 12, 2015, 08:05:03 am »
We have two pygmy goats (castrated males) who we've had for exactly a year now. I'm wondering how many is the right number for goats from the perspective of being happiest?
thanks very much :goat:

I have twelve wee pygmys and theres always room for more. Started with two girls and in a blink of an eye we gathered more from far and wide.  ;D Theres always the pecking order but thats to be expected.  :excited:

The most I had at any one time was 34 pygmys  that was when 10 girls had 19 kids, now down to a manageable 14
pygmy goats, gsd, border collie, scots dumpys, cochins, araucanas, shetland ducks and geese,  marrans, and pea fowl in a pear tree.

Thanks very much!
We're getting two kids soon so I hope four will be a happy group!
Any advice for when the two little ones arrive regarding bullying/establishing pecking order?
All advice is much appreciated   :)

As long as you have more than one which is a sorry number and a big no no! I think whatever number you feel comfortable with. If you buy more to go with your two, you will have a bust up at first whilst a new pecking order is decided, worth thinking about if your two are happy as they are. :sunshine:

I work on 6 to an acre - but pygmies only small and depends if you feeding them all year round - could have more if gave hay etc.  Need careful pasture management. I would split into 2 half acre plots and alternate them every 4 weeks to try to break the worm cycle
