Where do I start?
« on: April 14, 2015, 03:31:20 pm »
 hi there, my partner and myself have the hankering for a simpler way of life, he is a hardworking mechanic in Edinburgh and I am a florist/student, we are both in our mid-forties and would really love to know some facts and figures of starting our own little small holding, we are looking to find somewhere with possibly a few acres to rent in the Scottish Borders, where he currently lives, any advice is most welcome :) thanks Julie

Get yourselves some experience - go WWOOFing
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

  from arbroath ,

Can't give you any figures, apart from alwYs looking for money for the next project and can't see me ever being a millionaire.

However there are things that money just can't buy and that's what makes it all worth while
pygmy goats, gsd, border collie, scots dumpys, cochins, araucanas, shetland ducks and geese,  marrans, and pea fowl in a pear tree.

Hi and welcome, I am in the Borders too, finding somewhere to rent with land isn't easy, most houses with land are for sale but good luck
