Gestation period for Lleyns
« on: March 06, 2015, 11:12:39 pm »
Last year, for her first lambing (from a Jacob tup) my Lleyn ewe lambe two weeks earlier than the raddle mark would have suggested. This year,(Hampshire tup) with three weeks to go, she is beginning to bag up already, so she could easily lamb two weeks early again. I was just wondering if it is a breed specific characteristic to have a 19 week gestation or if it just happens with some sheep. Thank you for your thoughts.

Our Lleyns had a similar gestation length to the wiltshires , charollais and Exlanas

More of an individual animal thing I suspect?

Ours were 145-147 days to a lleyn tup and a texel . Nothing two weeks early even ewe lambs lambing.
My mish mash ewes have been bagging up with three weeks to go but I don't expect any to deliver before 145 days :fc:
