Hazel fence posts?
« on: February 25, 2015, 07:51:57 pm »
Hi, just been coppicing some hazel and I've got some nice straight and strong bits of timber that I'd like to use for chicken fencing posts. Wondered if anyone had used hazel for fence posts and could tell me if they're up to the job and would last? :chook:

Would do temporarily but won;t last a season. Best use them for bean poles then put them in the wood burner  :)

OK for strengthening laid hedges as they're out of contact with the ground but will rot very quickly.  Generally speaking the faster it grows the faster it rots.

With the notable exception of Sweet Chestnut.
