Wanted (to rent/borrow) Electric Poultry Stunner
« on: November 24, 2014, 11:04:05 pm »
Does anyone have one to rent out?  We are in Scotland (South Lanarkshire) Looking at the weekend 13/14 December to do our Turkeys,  we can take them somewhere to stun etc but if we can do this at home the less stress for the birds.

Thanks for looking

I don't know about Scotland but you don't in England to do your own birds. To do other peoples you need a "certificate of competence" To get this a Trading Standards vet will come and watch you do a few birds and satisfy themself that you have done the job humanely.
You could borrow mine lintmill but Devon's a bit far away ;D

I think electric stunning has its advantages. I did the dispatch course at Ritchie and Pammy Riggs' place and he uses a stunner with a killing cone. The bonus being that it is totally humane and because the heart still goes for a while, the bird bleeds out much better, giving a cleaner carcass to work with.

I think if I was looking to do a lot more birds, I would definitely go down that route.
