Helping others - the homeless mainly.
« on: November 20, 2014, 09:53:34 pm »
I still have three of John's rucksacks in a cupboard - don't ask why he had three - I never got a straight answer to that! :innocent:    As well as gloves, hats, scarves, sleeping bags etc etc etc

So I'm filling one, possibly two of them, for this appeal which has been going for about 3 years.

Will be scouring and scrounging amongst family and friends for rucksacks and fillers.

I'm a bit far from the Gorbals but my son is coming on the 30th so he'll take it in for me.

Just realised I would have to make a trip to Glasgow, so have donated to Shelter instead. XX

Great idea if I didn't have to take the rucksack to Glasgow, shame it's not UK wide x

Mine is now in Paisley - Donald will take it into the city centre on Sunday morning.   I suggested that it should be country wide - but to be honest this is all the  fault of the UK Government - we're back to the soup kitchen days that i remember in my childhood - 60 years ago!  Disgraceful!!!

In Telford, the foodback has expanded to meet the need. some sewing machines have been donated and sewing parties are doing things like repairing curtains that can then be given to a family in need. The latest project is making reusable nappies and sanitary products out of unrepairable items. Did we ever dream that life would turn out like this for many people. The sad thing is that many of the families in need are working people who still can't make ends meet.

Things are getting harder not better for lots of people. who would have thought that in this day and age food banks would be needed in this country. its just not right. people should be earning a proper living wage.

What I can't understand is how the politicians can keep telling us that the recession is over and that we have turned the corner - we clearly haven't and Japan is now officially back in recession - Japan of all places, and China isn't far behind.  Their economies are usually pretty buoyant.

Politicians aren't exactly known for their truth-telling.

So very true but why do they think we'll believe them?  :innocent:
