Could I come and talk to you see your goats please? ANGUS
« on: October 22, 2014, 04:22:25 pm »
Fingers crossed I am going to get some goats next weekend. I have read books, have a shelter, fields, etc., I have always been around animals and years ago I looked after and milked some pet goats for a few months. So not totally nieve but there are things I have only read about and don't have a good enough grasp of. Like foot trimming or giving injections. I dont think I could tell the difference between a fat goat or healthy weight.
I have a lovely friendly vet next door, and another neighbour who used to keep them and has offered her assistance and advice but I would really like to see (and possibly touch?) someone's goat before I go to buy mine (3x12month old boer, just in kid).

I return for a bit of your time I can offer a bag of carrots and some wheat/barley.

Hello,

I can show you how to trim feet, not due for injections for a while though

We might be a touch far away (near Falkirk) though you are welcome if you want to. Gordon Webster and Gordon Smith are in Angus though, near Monikie. I can give you their contact number if you want. They have dairy goats but have had Boers in the past.

I won't be offended if you want to go to the Gordon's, that's who I went to when I first started.

Thanks. I think my mother in law knows them. I'll ask her in a bit.

Hi Beth, thanks for the offer, but unfortunately yes you're a bit far.
Mother in law doesn't know them, just bought a dog off them about 15 years ago!
Please may I have gordon and Gordon's phone number?

Pm'd you his number. Personally I'd recommend going to see both Gordon and mojocafa. There's nothing like seeing things from different perspectives, and the different methods people use. I'm a great believer in telling people the options available, and letting them work out what works best for them.

Two goaty set-ups seen.  Thanks to mojo cafe and Gordon. Have had a go at hoof trimming, (of little goats ????) had many questions answered, and questions to ask breeder honed down.
Feeling more confident about the whole venture. Just need to refurbish old horse box to make it a field shelter, move the hay, buy another bale and more straw,  get first aid kit, hoof clippers... Ok, so still quite a bit to do in next five days!
Dug out cph number and printed off sheep/goat record thing. I really like them, and had forgotten how much I like their smell... I know Im weird, also like the musky smell of tups and ferrets!

If you're weird then I must be as well. I love the smell of goats.

Just a suggestion but davidsons in Blairgowrie will have the trimmers and they will have a stall at the mart on Thursday night, you could pick them up when your there.
