Waterfowl and rain
« on: October 17, 2014, 09:18:11 am »
We have had heavy rain on and off now (more on then off) for four days (North Wales), my geese make no attempt at all to find shelter. What do yours do?. Or is it all in the name? Waterfowl.

I think you've answered your own question!

BTW, if it keeps raining for long enough, they float too!

Mine don"t mind at all in fact if you get the hosepipe on them they will all stand in a row facing forward for a shower!

Mine stubbornly refuse all shelter, they happily sleep outdoors even in the worst horizontal sleet.

I thought it was because they had watched all the effort I had put into building them a shelter and they are spitefully  wanting me to think it was a total waste of time and effort!

My ducks are happiest in the rain... the chicken shelter in the house, the ducks wallow in the puddles like pigs :roflanim:

That's the beauty of geese they're impervious to anything the weather can throw at them.

Ditto - biggest problem with the ducks is that rain gives them the chance to turn over the grass completely = mudbath

Imagine! Waterproof feathers that shrug off the rain/sleet/hail etc. and a cosy layer of down for warmth. Tuck your (fairly) vulnerable head under your wing and you're sorted
