Sheep experience needed in north Cumbria
« on: September 30, 2014, 09:09:51 pm »
Hi,

I would like to keep sheep some time in the future, and I am doing a practical sheep keeping course at the moment. I would love to find somewhere I could come and help out for a morning and learn more on a local small holding. It would be great to come at different times of the year, especially lambing time.

I live between Penrith and Carlisle.

Thanks,

Littleyam

You won't learn much in a morning, lol.

We're a beef and sheep farm east of Brampton (the one on the A69.)

We do give people experience from time to time, but we normally only do it if they are able to come several times, so that we get to a point where they can make a genuine contribution.  So for instance, if you could come for several days in a week, or come on several consecutive weekends.

Would you be available and want to come and help in the future when needed, for instance at hay-making, sheep shearing, on days when we are doing a lot of sheep work?  (So that if we spent some time and effort teaching you things, you would then be a useful person to help out in the future ;))
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Hi there,
That is a great offer - I do mean I'd come and help out when you need extra help. That would be great, I have a Son at school, and I work part-time, so I haven't got that much free time really - but would love to come and help out when I can. Weekdays would be best though, and I am self-employed, so can be flexible on days.

Cheers,
