Charollais x BWM
« on: September 17, 2014, 10:13:43 am »
I have a geezer coming this evening to look at my BWM ram that is for sale ... he has charollais ewes ... what would be the benefits of putting a BWM ram on charollais ewes?

If you want my ideas.. here goes  :innocent:

maybe he wants wild sheep that dont grow very fast  ::)

or he wants to tup some ewe lambs for the first time and wants tiny lambs that have good get up and go, so he could use some bwm rams for that...

+ 1 for tupping ewe lambs.

But BWM would be low down on my list of choices!

I know of one farmer using shetlands on charollais ewe lambs, I have a few of those crossbred lambs in my flock, they mature at around 50-60kilo and are a solid ewe

I however would use something like a charmoise, as then you can get a good shaped lamb at the end of the day

I plan on doing that with a couple as a trial this year. My BWM are not wild, the rams are a good size and if I ever get enough lambs left so I can eat one I may find out if the meat is as delicious as I am told!
