For years we've used this type of plastic feed scoop:
However, having the handle on the back makes it a pain for scooping direct from feed sacks, or from the small blue plastic barrels. So, I bought one of these at our local farm store:
This is a lot better since having the handle on top makes scooping out of tight places much easier.
However, our cockerel Adolf had a go at me this morning, taking me so much by surprise that I instinctively threw the scoop at him and of course cracked it right down the middle
.
My current inclination is to just make a new one by cutting down an old bleach bottle or similar, but I don't mind buying one if I can find a really good design that will last. So my question is, where can I get a really robust (metal?) version of the blue scoop above, or some other design that works well with feed sacks and small barrels? Any ideas folks?
