Hello folks,

We think we've found millions of chanterelles.  However, we're aware that there are also millions of false-chanterelles, and don't really know the difference.  Can any of you differentiate between the two?

You have probably seen all the comparisons on the internet but if you cut throught hte stem and the flesh is white is a good indication and I can also see from your pictures that you have the 'false gills' which fork out. A sign  of real chanterelle.
Did you find them near trees?

Ether way be very sure about your identification.

Is this the one plus point of having spent the weekend walking through the woods shouting for your Soays Lynn?  :bouquet:

Hi Lynn,

Another indication if you have pick quite a few and leave them in a tub or bag you should be able to detect a fruity apricot smell.

Rogers mushroom is a good website with decent photos for comparison

The best thing is to get someone you trust know his stuff to tell you what to look form and talk you through it.
Chanterelles also tend to appear in clumos were as the true False chanterelle is slithly more dispersed.
