New zealand rabbits available
« on: June 22, 2014, 09:58:18 am »
I have some 9/10 week old bucks and does ready to go and also a couple of 16 week old does (litter sisters). The does are fully using their litter trays but at least one of the bucks hasn't quite got it right yet. This lot are all very friendly and on the large side as they were born big.

Julie,
Excuse me for being thick because I know nothing about rabbits but does 'using the litter tray' mean they are house rabbits?

If so do they come and go in the house at will?

No, not house rabbits, they live in hutches in a great big shed ...... and it's a good question  :D
The litter trays are in their hutches you see, rabbits pick a corner to use to urinate in and if you put a litter tray or specially shaped corner loo in their chosen corner they will get used to using it and teach the babies to go there too. It makes life so much easier as the loos can be emptied every day and a dusting of shavings added to soak up the pee. Most of the dry droppings will be in there too.
Some folks keep rabbits on a wire floor so the stuff drops straight through and cuts down the workload. I don't keep my rabbits on wire, it's more work for me and costs more to raise them but is more natural for the rabbits. Cleanliness is crucial to rabbit health so the corner loos prevent urine and ammonia build up in the hutches.
Ideally they would be in a moveable run/rabbit tractor on grass but I can't guarantee disease free stock if I do that. If I ever stopped selling them to breeders that's the best way to go for sure and the healthiest way to raise meat rabbits, as grass fed meat has 4 times the omega 3 that non grass fed meat has. I cut fresh grass for them daily but direct access is better still.

I just uploaded a video of some rabbits I'm selling, mainly to put on the Gumtree advert but just in case anyone is interested it's here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WB89rVmAVXQ
It was taken about four weeks ago so some of these have gone and the rest are almost 12 weeks old now.

I've also decided to sell two 20week old does after all, not too far off breeding age - it's getting a bit overcrowded here lol
