Moving day - yay!
« on: April 08, 2014, 08:02:33 am »
Hello everyone, bit of cheat really as I am not new to the forum at all but when i joined we were living in our military owned 3 bed terrace with tiny garden and tomorrow it is MOVING DAY!

So for those of you who don't already know, when I next have the internet I will be living in my new 2 acre smallholding on the island of Westray, Orkney. We leave tomorrow afternoon once removals have packed up our stuff and then we will be driving to the ferry terminal in scrabster with our dog, cat, 2 rabbits and 6 quail in the back!

I am just so excited that it is finally happening and I will soon be there! Here is the link to the property details for the house; http://www.orkneypropertycentre.co.uk/FileLibrary/Schedules/Sandihall%20Westray.pdf

It is a major move away from family but i think the benefits of the way of life up there, especially for my three little girls will be worth it.

My plan when i get there is to put pigs on the whole lot as the pasture has been left to its own devices for at least three years. then section the 2 acre paddock into 4 or 6 smaller paddocks with the view to rotating through a four year ley for a few sheep, weaners for fattening, and mabye a bit of hay/stubble turnips or something. I have some duck eggs on the way to go into my inncy when we arrive and my two of my neighbours have offered us some of their surplus chickens.

Fingers crossed it all goes well!!

It seems so long ago that you viewed here I thought you were already in it.

Good luck with the move, it looks lovely and has a lot of potential for a young family
