Hello from a soon to be Smallholder
« on: July 07, 2013, 11:39:00 am »
I have been reading loads of stuff on here as I am looking at setting up a small holding. A quick overview of the ins and outs are that my partner and I are looking for a 5 acre plot with house. She will be staying in full time work with a wage that covers our living expenses and I will be leaving my employment to start up a business that will provide enough to cover the running of the venture and put a little bit in my pocket a month.

We don't have unrealistic expectations of how this will work and especially not with regards to making any sort of money so the business plan is looking quite sensible.

The site we are going to view next weekend has a CL caravan site, paddocks with horse boxes and a small lake so has some income already and we plan to put in PYO fruit, 200 chickens and some pigs.

When we have somewhere sorted I hope that there are some of you friendly people near by for some actual real life tips and advice.

Hello and welcome Ben
I am sure that wherever you are moving too there will be a TAS'er nearby somewhere.
Good luck with your venture

It's exciting isn't it? :excited:  Looking at smallholdings and imagining what you are going to do with them. Where about are you looking?

We're looking in or around Lincolnshire due to my partner's job. Its not too far from the family but far enough if you know what I mean ;)

The business plan is nearly there. It will need some tweaks dependent on the one we go for and we could do with raising some more capital but all in all, in my mind, its a dead cert!
