jersey Calf living out ?
« on: May 20, 2013, 08:38:45 pm »
Just wondered if anyone has jerseys living out 24/7
the 2 calfs are now nearly 6 and 5 months old. they get out for a bit during the day but we would like to move them up to the other place where they would have plenty of grass but they would have to live out up there  :-\
Anyone done it ?

My older Jersey youngsters live out 24x7, until they come in to calve the first time.

5-6 months old - they should be ok now... but up in your area, it could be quite a bit harsher than we have it here, depending on altitude, shelter, etc.  Would there be walls for them to shelter behind?  Trees?
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing
