Well as a male I don't knit (and don't natter very well either).

Due to the number of us living in this area of south Wales I think a meet up has been 'mooted' before but never materialised (and I'm not sure Spring/Summer is the best time).

As for venues that would depend on numbers. If literally only 2 or 3 for a knit and natter surely someone's house would be best? If a larger gathering (and here I'm thinking more along the lines of a mini small holders association group) well the Angel in Llandeilo has a good upstairs room (with an interesting ceiling!) they allow to be used for free (if prebooked) and not being used for anything else.

If it was only for say about 5 people to get together for a cuppa and a natter you could ask Wrights Food Emporium if you could take over a little section for an hour or two. They may well be supportive of smallholders and would be worth approaching as an outlet for produce anyway.

They are well worth a visit in any event and have excellent food (although not inexpensive). They are also literally just around the corner from me.

Personally I'm up for trying to get a more general meeting organised later in the year as we move into winter. If we could get an ongoing group organised there is the prospect of mutual support, networking (sorry to use that word) and even visits to each others holdings

Thank you Henchard ... I'm sure we could teach you to knit!!!!      Many thanks for ideas.  Carmarthen location chosen  as is about half way for those who have shown interest so far... but is open to change.  Like the idea of Wainwrights. 

I agree a meet up would be great later in the year... but I expect everyone has different times of year when less busy .... winter definately not quiet for livestock people..... I'll send out a thread and see if I get any response.

Clearly not a Cumbrian farming male in his 50s, as they do both  .  They were taught to knit at school  , although few of them do it now.  And no-one gossips like a Cumbrian farmer...

My KaN group meets in a nice cafe in Carlisle on a Saturday afternoon - and we have one male KNatterer.  It's a very diverse group, which is what I like about it.  That, and the cakes.

It's possible I suppose but I'm not sure I have the cheek to ask. There is another one a little bit further but not a good time for me. The woman who runs that one has said she will contact me if she starts anything at a better time.

Oh yes! Not far from us at all really. I used to live at Cosford when I did my training in the RAF. I'll have to take a look at the map tomorrow and see if I can find somewhere inbetween. Is there anyone else in our neck of the woods, do you know?

I don't actually know how to knit very well, my Mum is teaching me at the moment, I have almost got the hang of knitting and perling, but thats it so far!

there is a group that meets at the Welsh Woollen Museum twice a month on a tuesday but at the moment I cannot remember which Tuesday, lovely group of ladies that knit for charity when they are not knitting for family and friends, if my memory serves me well it is from 2pm to 4pm. not sure if that is too far from you, only 7 miles from me
