We had friends that stayed for a couple of weeks recently. They left more than one LARGE carton of cornflakes. We don't eat them...

.....But the ducklings scoffed into them with gusto ( and a splash of milk!!! )  We also notice they have a particular fondness for our left over boiled rice and chopped carrot tops too!.

Today when we were moving compost they where treated to a guid few choice earthworms. Turns out these are worth fighting for!  :&>  :&>  :&>  comical to say the least.

I can so imagine the scuffles to get to the goodies  ;D . Mine never have a chance for the hens are faster ! Just remember with any cooked and processed foods (like cornflakes!) that they may be quite high in salt and sugars. Too much is probably not that good for their tiny bodies, same as with bread.  :&> :&>

our 3 have a scuffle with the hens for all the food - put them on to the empty veg beds and all have a good feed from slugs worms etc.

Yes. Good point. I checked the packet and although it 90% maize, the second constituent is sugar, then salt! They are not getting anymore of them!!!

The last couple of days I have picked up 2 large ( about 2-3 inches) green grasshoppers and thrown them to the muscovies. Yesterday our West Highland came up to us with one of these monsters in her mouth - a gift for the ducks !!
The muscovies love their insects !

I'm getting quite good at catching flies around the house - as a treat for the hen in the hospital wing  ;) :&>
