Ex -free range hens near us are £1 each as well.
 
I'm amazed no-one I have spoken to realises that the lovely yellow yolks in any eggs you buy (except organic) are just chemically coloured. People round here seem aware that 'enriched' cages are just fractionally larger than battery cages -there have been some displays at local shows. 'Guess how many hens can legally live in here?' or along those lines.

BHWT are still regularly rehoming ex-battery or barn hens (the barn hens are almost featherless due to bullying).  On the website they will show the nearest rehoming centre to you, and the next date  :thumbsup: .  They have amazing powers of recovery, will lay for another year or so and make lovely pets.
