Hog Roast
« on: October 23, 2011, 03:44:04 pm »
I've recently done my first hog roast.  It was for my parents Golden Wedding Anniversary.  We had a party here and I'd been planning a particular pig for the roast, and attached is a picture.  Thought you might like to see.

A friend built the spit and Rosie was 85kg d/w.  We lit the charcoal an hour before putting her on, and she cooked very slowly/gently for 10 hours before the first 'sitting' in the afternoon and kept warm over the coals feeding everyone right through the evening.

Definitely worth cooking over the charcoal.

 :) :) :)

Fantastic!  We've done them on a scaffold pole inside an oil drum in the past.  Not are they delicious, but they make a good talking point at a party too.

That picture is of Rosie about half way through cooking.  I do have some pictures of her finished, but they are on a disk my sister has made for me.....as a slideshow with music.  I'm so useless at computers I can't work out how to copy just one or two pictures from it!!

I'll keep trying, or I'll get her to email just the ones I want.
