Freezer bags big enough for large turkeys?
« on: October 28, 2011, 02:43:50 pm »
Hi all,

We have 14 free range turkeys which will hopefully all be 20+ lbs by mid December.  I am trying to get organised, ready for when we start to process them and am finding it really hard to find extra large freezer/plastic bags to put them in when they are ready to be delivered.

Where do you get your turkey freezer bags or do you wrap them in something different.?

P.s also have 6 Geese that need the same treatment so desperate to get the bags ordered.

Many thanks
Steph

A couple of large white bin liners, one inside another would do

When we have bought turkeys in the past, they have been in a thick but clear plastic bag.

As I am selling these turkeys i obviously want them presented as best as possible, a white bin bag would have to be my last resort, thanks for the suggestion though.

Ask your local butcher where he gets his from. In my experience butchers are friendly and helpful folk. Mine puts dog/soup bones into large, thick bags.

There are several on line site sell similar products or any wholesale paper merchant should have them.

if we have to freeze ours which we`ve only had to do once in 4 years we use the big poly bags that you get fish in (large koi carp not gold fish lol) they work brill and our turkey was 35lb that went in freezer :-)
