Funny now but it wasn't this morning lol
« on: August 15, 2011, 05:40:35 pm »
Managed to get my car fixed on the weekend, got the stock trailer, booked the pigs in to the abattoir and everything was looking peachy.

That was until we tried to get the pigs in the bloody trailer this morning.

They decided to distroy everything that had planned.  We had the same set up that we've used every time we've had to take pigs from the field so we thought all would be well.....the pigs decided not  :pig:

Took us 1 and a half hours to get 6 gilts into the trailer ..... then we forgot to ear tag them so had to do it in the trailer and then 1 broke out and was a nightmare to get back in.

Picture the scene lol i am a big lass (about 19 stone) and i literally got dragged down the sodding field by one of my gilts today lol i can wrestle horses and win but boy did i lose today.

Covered in pig poo and mud and god knows then i get the car stuck grrrrrrr running late for the abattoir we hit a traffic jam !!! Phoned them up and they were OK about it.  When we get there 3 of the little buggers had pulled their ear tags out !!!!!!!

All i can say is thank goodness today is nearly over with lol we were meant to get a big bale of haylage but decided not to and get it tomorrow.

LOL, at least you can laugh about it now.

Feet up and a large glass of something to toast them with tonight?  :)

Went back to feed, water and do beds after we dropped the gilts off and the rest of them were silent.  Got soaked and left my boots at home so got stinking lol put out a bale of hay and found a tough type thing for the sow to have her nuts in and the babies had a big bowl of mush that they love.  The stock trailer was horrid and i got a lot of splash back when i hosed it down.

Came home had a bacon and egg roll and a massive cup of tea :)

When we took 3 mangalitzas to slaughter last Monday I ended up chasing the buggers around their pen in the abattoir to re-tag them. At least mangalitzas are easier to catch hold of, being wooly!
I can really empathise with you! But 2 good reasons to be cheerful:
1) you got them there
2) you've given me the best laugh I've had in ages! Thanks

No matter how badly it went, how many disasters you had along the way....

Just remember your day ended better than theirs did !  :bunny:

Reminds me of our first experience in June, similar scenario.  We were so cross in the end, and relieved to be driving back from the abatoir, hubby lost all his bond he'd made with the pigs and never felt guilty eating them ;D

I'm sore today lol we've got 4 going tomorrow to a farmer  :pig: so we're going up there today (in this horrible crappy rain) to make a holding pen so we can get them in there and they can't go anywhere.  We're lucky that there is only 1 big one going tomorrow and not 4 lol and 1 medium size 1 and 2 small ones.  Plan is to herd them into the holding pen and back the trailer up to it and usher them in ...... simples  :farmer: well thats the plan anyway
