hopefully I'm going to 'borrow' a ram for the 2 Polled Dorset Mums. Now I know I have to do this around November for spring lambs but, aside from leaning on local farmer again, I have no idea where to start! If I googled 'ram hire' it's not going to bring up favourable websites...!!! lol

From a farmer's perspective, it is more usual when it is a small number of ewes for the girls to visit the ram for three to five weeks (one cycle being 17 days); he would usually be working a harem of 30-50 and won't mind a couple extra!

If you are wanting purebred Polled Dorsets then I guess the breed society is one place to start.  If you don't mind what breed then personally I would sound out your local farmer - he may be quite happy for your girls to pop up the road for a cycle or two, or may know of another farmer whose ram would suit.
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing
