We pay £19 per pig killed. Never been charged extra for weigth and ours tend to be 120kg+. We butcher ourselves so no idea about that but £50 seems high to me.

They changed the rules for us recently so we have to use a specific butcher.  He collects from us, takes to abattoir, collects carcass and cuts.  Min. 120 euros per pig.  Bit of a hike as it was 70 under the old rule.

HM, why was that changed? So you can't take your pigs yourself anymore?

Local abattoir will not take them as they are raised outdoors.  (Apparently those raised in a barn with access to fresh air but not grass are acceptable).   This coincided with the Agri people deciding that only one local butcher was approved for us (because ours are outdoor raised).  We can take pigs for our own use and use our "old" butcher but for sale its now the very expensive route.  C'est la vie as the man said!  :)

leghorn we dropped the first 2 off at hellets this morning all went very well, the vet was lovely and very through and the bonus for us was we know one of the slaughtermen from years back (did not know he worked there until a few days back) so we know the animals were in safe hands. will report back after we collect the meat with all the costings.

we were so pleased with the service the next 4 have been booked in for the begining of may.

We've never seen a slaughter report (nor a vet, but we used a very small place up until last year). Is it usual to receive that?
We'll be taking ours elsewhere this year, so we may get to see both.

this is the smallest of the 3 slaughter houses we have used and the second to see a vet on site both vets insist on inspecting the animals prior to dropping the loading ramp and a closer inspection on unloading.it is also our first report very reassuring everything is being done a ok.

right the meat is back the prices worked out at

killing & dressing 2 x £39
sausages 63lb £68.67 (£1.09 per LB)
mlc levy 2 x £1.05 + 21p VAT
inspection costs 2 x £5.50 + VAT £1.10

invoice total for 2 pigs £162.39

obviously the sausages depend on the size of the pig.

the cutting was done well. we are more than pleased with the service and intend to keep using them.

Did you get it cut into all the joints you wanted for this price?

yes we took the pigs to the slaughter house then just popped into the butchers shop on site and handed over our cutting list it all came back just so, which is a bonus the other 2 slaughter houses have been a bit hit and miss with the cutting list.
