Okay just had an idea while hubby and s-dd is watching the football. I am wondering can we start a list of book people would recommend?

Practical Sheep Keeping by Kim Cardell ISBN no:1-86126-163-2. Invaluable for the novice shepherd and the old hand.
Anything by John Seymour as he is just about the best author with regards to smallholding.

Marley and Me - can't remember the author. It's about the author's dog, Marley, the worst dog in the world. Dan's reading it and has been reading me excerpts - it's had me crying with laughter

I throughly enjoyed reading Clarissa Dickson Wright, Spilling the Beans, I could not put this down and read it in 2 days, if anyone wants it I could lend them my copy.
My other bible is Carol Klein's, Grow your Own Veg, it's easy to understand for a novice like me. I have just been given Alys Fowlers, The Thrifty Gardener for my birthday, this will be my winter reading.
My other favourite book is 'As Time Goes By', as the title suggests, it's a continuation of 'Casablanca' the film, if anyone is a soft romantic and wants to know what happened when Ingrid Bergman flies off at the end of the film then read this, it's by Michael Walsh. ISBN 0-316-64804-3

"vegetable and fruit gardening" by the royal horticultural society - it's not flash but it has just about all the information you need. I found the teach yourself keeping poultry really useful as well.

Scenes from a Smallholding by Chas Griffin was the first book i've read cover to cover virtually at one sitting in years. Funny and informative... we contacted him via his blog and eventually had lunch with him and his wife a few months ago!! Looking forward to reading the next two from him.

I'm reading his second one - More scenes from a Smallholding. Haven't read the first, wish I had as there are a lot of references to it in this one. Happy to pass it one when I've finished, if anyone wants it
