Solar panels for electric fencing
« on: October 12, 2010, 08:31:23 am »
Hi,
My dear hubby has bought me a solar panel (4 watt trickle charge breifcase style) battery charger
The fencing unit for the pigs is a heavy duty one that runs off a 12v car battery.

My question is - can I have the solar panel connected to the battery at the same time as the fencing unit is connected - or will i blow up the unit? or damage the solar panels?
The charger has a regulator, and is designed not to drain the battery when it is not actually charging, ie in the dark!
Cheers Emma T

It will be fine to connect it straight to the battery terminals - but dont expect it to keep it fully charged, it will probably need a good trickle charge every now and then from a mains charger as well.
