Title: Layers pellets in bulk
Post by: Growy16 on September 19, 2012, 11:05:41 am
Does anyone know where I can get layers pellets loose by the ton in the North Notts/Lincoln area?  We are near Newark.  We have 50 birds so its pretty dear buying by the 20 or 25kg bag.  I found a company in North Yorkshire  that sell in one tonne tote bags which would be ideal but they quoted me £481.00 a bag!!  Since a tonne in 20kg bags on a pallet can be got for £317.00 locally I have no idea who they sell to.  I can collect no problem if anyone knows anywhere?  Been scouring the net but cant find anything.

Cheers

Mark

Sorry, no.

Know what you mean though ... we get through a lot of bags  ::)

All I can think of is asking at a farm with egg production units ..... free range or whatever. Presumably they buy in bulk from somewhere.

There is a place near us that will do it in 4 tonne 'blown in' loads, which is far too much at once and we dont have a silo large enough.  I bought an old pig feed storage bin off ebay which holds around 1-1.5 tonnes.  Buying it in in bags to tip into the bin negates the whole purpose and there is very little saving.

Its a tricky one.

Just based on my own recent experience, be careful how much you buy and that you can use it all close to the use by date.  We have stored ours well, gone past the date by about 6 weeks and it is going mouldy :(.

We paid £315 for a ton of bagged feed with BOCM Paul btw
