Title: Postal library.
Post by: colliewoman on November 27, 2011, 06:25:48 pm
I has an idea.... cont from 'what are you reading'....
Finished reading a good book, run out of space on the bookshelf?
Stick it on here, if everyone posts the books on that they have 'borrowed', it will only ever cost the price of postage to read a book you fancy. No time limits as far as I am concerned, the book listed in below would have gone to the charity shop otherwise ;D

I have a copy of the exmoor files by Liz Jones.
Will post to whoever asks first! put it back on here to send on again when you've finished. Write your user name in the front and we'll see how many people get to enjoy it.

Sounds like a good idea but surely it's costing the donor to post rather than the receipient?

That's the way Book Mooch (http://www.bookmooch.com) works - you build up credits by sending books to folk, which you can then use to request books from others. I've been a member for years and it works really well, even internationally.

yup but then the receipient becomes the donor and posts it on to the next person...
made sense in my head ;D

There used to be a 'read it and pass it on scheme'. It had boxes of books in waiting rooms, schools etc and people just added , took away or swapped books to the box. I look after a camping hostel and have a box in there for the tourists to swap there hliday reads in.

I used to do a lot of my Christmas "shopping" at my Book Club's December 'Swap Shop'!  (Can't stand the commercialism of it, but love giving presents I know the recipient will love - so charity shops and swap shops suit me well!  Oh, and this year, quite a few TAS[er]-made gifts were given...  ;D)

At Uni, there was a book doing the rounds - you could read it but had to write your name in the cover and pass it on with the same stipulation.  I often wonder where it ended up, and whether I have unknowingling met one or more people who have read that copy of that book since it left me...  It was 'Eating People is Wrong' by Malcolm Bradbury (and a jolly good read it was too.)

I am nothing like organised enough to play this game at the moment, but when I eventually get myself sorted and boxes unpacked, I'll be posting on here, for sure!

I have available
Hardback Practical Pig Keeping by Paul Smith
ISBN1-86126-388-0

I bought it thinking it might be useful to my set up but its not. Its broadly aimed at the small commercial pig keeper who might run say 10+ sows. and covers both indoor and outdoor set ups. Its quite technical in places.

If anyone would like it let me know via messaging sytem. Need your full name, address and postcode.
