We've bought a breadmaker. Now I know if we were proper smallholders we'd be up to our elbows in dough daily - and we do make bread by hand sometimes - but time is limited and breadmaking isn't always top of the priority list. Mostly it's not even on the list.

However, we were fed up with shop bought bread, so Dan bought a breadmaker. It's fab. It's got a timer so you can set it up at night and the bread is ready in the morning. Yesterday, we awoke to the most wonderful smell of new baked white bread - extra large. We ate it at lunchtime. Not good for the diet.

So last night I set up a large 70% wholemeal. Looks lovely this morning - no doubt we'll eat it at lunchtime, so maybe a medium loaf will be big enough, so we don't turn into lardy bloaters.

Actually, I must go for flour today or there will be no bread tomorrow.

We love our breadmaker, and wouldn't be without one now. You will soon slow down eating the fresh bread once you're body gets used to it.

Dan made spiced fruit bread yesterday and it's delicious. I like to have something like that in the bread bin, but grudge putting the oven on for one thing so I bake a whole load of stuff. Then we eat it - lardy bloaters.

I think it's probably quite economical too.
