Hot cute young chicks

They're hot (well, they've got a heat lamp), cute, young chicks. Here they are, our first successful hatchlings, just over a day old:

They are great entertainment, and seem to be doing swimmingly. Rosemary's praying that they are all girls so we can keep them, while I'm hoping one's a boy so we can finally try a home-grown table bird. It's a little early to tell what the breeding is - there's a good chance they will be pure light sussex, but we'll need to see.

the one at the front looks exactly like colin, our light sussex chick. the one at the back looks to have a bit more colour, but that could be shadow.

I've just checked in to see what happened in the incubator and saw your news. The video clip is great. What breed are the chicks?

@Carl: the one at the back is slightly less well-feathered than the other, so I think that's shadow you're seeing.

@Sara: Our cockerel is a Light Sussex, and the eggs came from either Light Sussex (most likely), Black Rock (less likely) or Rhode Island Red (least likely) hens. We're not experienced enough to know when breed characteristics start to show - are their colourings now any indication of breed?

Oh well done I'm so pleased they came through despite your incubator problems
