The incubator suffers a power cut
I feel like Private Fraser - "we're doomed" never to raise any chicks. This morning we had a power cut - we don't know how long the power was off - not long, we think, but of course the incubator lost power. We sorted the problem (tripped fuse) and the incubator was up to temperature in literally minutes. We've left the eggs in mainly because we can't decide what to do for the best. My heart says give it a go, my head says cut the losses and start again. I thought we could leave it for a few days, then candle the eggs and see if there is any development. Advice welcome.

I'm sorry! I had a whole batch of turkey chicks die last week, and then the cat got the rest of what I had in the brooder. Depressing!
Posted by: Polly at April 11, 2007 7:14 PMI would stick with it and candle them in a couple of days. A chicken would get off the nest to feed and poop anyway so fingers crossed they're fine. We're hoping to put eggs under our broody chicken this weekend, this is our first time at giving it a proper go so here's hoping!

Hi guys, I'm sure the eggs will be fine. Keep them in there and candle them as usual at 7 days. Hope you get some chicks this time!!

I will candle the eggs in a few days and see what's happening, if anything.

Hi, The same thing happened to me last month but my power was off for 3 hours!! I continued with my duck eggs and got 4 out of 6 so I think you should give them a go.
